The company announced this week that Apple is working on an app called Apple TV, and the company’s vice president of software, Craig Federighi, told The Washington Star the app will run on both platforms.
The app is in beta, Federighis said, but is slated to launch on Apple TV and iOS devices in early 2021.
Apple TV is designed to be a companion app to Apple TV as well as to make it easier for users to connect with friends, family, and businesses across Apple devices.
Federighinsi said the app is similar to other Apple TV apps that use the Apple Watch.
The App Store is Apple’s app store for iOS, and Federighsi said it will soon allow developers to create apps that support both Apple TV platforms.
Apple TV users can also sign up for Apple TV Insider, which allows users to get Apple TV alerts.
Federighi said Apple will also start working on the app to bring cross-platform support to its other products.
For example, Federig is working with Microsoft to create a new app that can be used with the Xbox, Federihi said.
The news comes as Apple is ramping up its efforts to become a player in the cloud.
Federihis goal is to help Apple grow its cloud computing infrastructure, which includes a cloud-based gaming platform called iCloud.
